Les Miserables
Les Miserables is a 2012 historical drama film directed by Tom Hooper and starring Hugh Jackman, Russell Crowe, and Anne Hathaway. The film is based on the 1862 French novel of the same name by Victor Hugo, which was previously adapted into a stage musical.
The story takes place in early 19th-century France and follows the lives of several characters during the time of the French Revolution. Jean Valjean (Jackman), a former convict, is on the run from the law. He is pursued by Javert (Crowe), a police inspector who will not rest until he has captured Valjean.
Valjean eventually takes refuge in a convent, where he meets Fantine (Hathaway), a single mother who is struggling to make ends meet. Valjean agrees to care for her daughter, Cosette (Isabelle Allen), but Javert is always on his trail.
The film received positive reviews from critics and was a commercial success, grossing over $441 million worldwide. Audiences praised the acting, directing, and musical performances, as well as the film's emotional power. Les Miserables was nominated for eight Academy Awards, including Best Picture, and won three for Best Supporting Actress (Hathaway), Best Production Design, and Best Makeup and Hairstyling.
