Matsuda Jinpei

Matsuda Jinpei used to be a part of the Tokyo bomb squadron. Due to his recklessness, his superiors moved him to a new police department, where Matsuda partnered with Sato Miwako - a new detective back then. During their first few workdays, Sato often felt put off due to his frank manner, but then they got closer and Sato had a seemingly one-sided crush on him.

Then one day, they had to go on a mission to deposit a bomb at the amusement park's Ferris wheel. When Matsuda was trying to disarm it, the culprit trapped him within, revealing that there was another bomb in the town. When the Ferris bomb winded down, the location of the second one would be displayed, killing the policemen's life.

Hence, Matsuda decided to sacrifice himself. As the last seconds passed, he sent the second bomb's location via SMS to Sato, expressing his regret that he wouldn't be able to celebrate with her after they catch the culprit.

His death haunted Sato many years later, to the point that she even kept Matsuda Jinpei's last message on the cellphone to remind herself of him. But years later, when Sato and Takagi finally caught that bomb killer, she decided to put her memories about Matsuda behind and opened her heart to Takagi.
