Rei Furuya, a police officer who currently spies on the Black Organization - dominates our list of the most popular Detective Conan characters. In contrast to his shooting skills, Rei's personality is pretty cheerful. Rei is also very generous, too, often bringing sandwiches to Mori's detective agency, all of which were bought with his own money. Under more severe circumstances, he is quite patient, always staying calm despite people's abuse of him.

Despite being categorized as a "cool man", Rei Furuya rarely tries to hide his inner emotions; instead, the man is very expressive. Also, like most polices and detectives in the franchise, Rei likes showing his deductions and arguments about the cases to other people. Even Kogoro Mouri himself has to call Rei "effeminate".

Also, Rei Furuya always respects his Japanese spirit, which means he always shows some kindness and humanity - even to enemies. For illustration, in chapter 12 of Zero's Tea Time, he wanted Camel to leave as soon as possible so that he doesn't encounter heavy traffic. Also, Rei and Camel practice with each other in chapter 34; and then, in chapter 45, after Camel has saved his chief, Rei thanked Camel and prepared tea for him, which astounded and impressed Camel. As said by Wataru - his friend - Rei is a gentleman just like Takagi.

Shuichi Akai ranks second on our list of the most popular Detective Conan characters - just after Rei. He's an American British that used to live in England. He's a member of the Federal Investigations, on special assignments to catch Gin - the head of the Black Organization. His partner is Starling Jodie, and his immediate superior is Black James.

Shuichi Akai infiltrated the Black Organizations with his fake name Moroboshi Dai and codename Rye. In order to feed info to his FBI members, he dated Miyano Akemi - a low-ranking member of the organization. Later, since he developed real feelings for Miyano Akemi, Shuichi forced himself to break up with his ongoing girlfriend Jodie. However, Andre Camel, his colleague, accidentally blew his cover, which made him flee the organization. After that, Akemi was killed, and he declared Gin - her murderer - his enemy.

Overall, Shuichi Akai is a stoic yet tenacious agent. In all types of matters (even the most personal ones), he always remains cool and detached from people. In return, we can say he's one of the most loyal characters, always staying loyal to his friends and colleagues. Aside from that, Shuichi is also a skilled detective and pursuer, which made him the Black Organization's number one foe, earning him the "Silver Bullet" nickname.

Ai Habara is the girl who made APTX 4869 - the medicine that has shrunken Shinichi Kudo and turned him into Edogawa Conan. She's also the victim of that medicine, too. She used to work in the Black Organization with her codename "Sherry"; but after the death of her sister Akemi, she ran away from them and currently lives with Agasa - The Old Professor. Haibara's also among the very few people who know Edogawa Conan's true identity.

Ai Haibara possesses a cool and calm personality, high intelligence, and sarcastic wit. During her first months after escaping from her organization, Haibra was cynical, always pushing others away. But later, she started to lose her coldness, embracing her new life while establishing stronger relationships with Conan, Ran, and Agasa.

Ai Habara is also pretty quiet - a girl of few words - though that might be a tactic to hide away from the Organization's members. She considers the Detective Boys (Conan, Ayumi, Genta, and Mitsuhiko) as the first friends she had, willing to do everything to keep them safe, even if that costs her own life. Hence, Haibara sometimes views herself as a dangerous threat to her friends, since she's certain the Organization will kill them all once they find her.

Matsuda Jinpei used to be a part of the Tokyo bomb squadron. Due to his recklessness, his superiors moved him to a new police department, where Matsuda partnered with Sato Miwako - a new detective back then. During their first few workdays, Sato often felt put off due to his frank manner, but then they got closer and Sato had a seemingly one-sided crush on him.

Then one day, they had to go on a mission to deposit a bomb at the amusement park's Ferris wheel. When Matsuda was trying to disarm it, the culprit trapped him within, revealing that there was another bomb in the town. When the Ferris bomb winded down, the location of the second one would be displayed, killing the policemen's life.

Hence, Matsuda decided to sacrifice himself. As the last seconds passed, he sent the second bomb's location via SMS to Sato, expressing his regret that he wouldn't be able to celebrate with her after they catch the culprit.

His death haunted Sato many years later, to the point that she even kept Matsuda Jinpei's last message on the cellphone to remind herself of him. But years later, when Sato and Takagi finally caught that bomb killer, she decided to put her memories about Matsuda behind and opened her heart to Takagi.

Shinichi Kudo is the famous detective, main protagonist, and narrator of Detective Conan. Though he's the main character, his popularity is a bit lagging in Japan compared to the other four characters we mentioned above (but he's still very widely beloved, by the way!)

The story started when Shinichi and his friend Ran Mori were on a date. He met two mysterious men from a criminal organization, who fed him a strange medicine that made his body shrink to his first-grade appearance. Later, Shinichi decided to use a new alias "Edogawa Conan", planning to use his detective skill to help Kogoro Mori - Ran's detective father become famous. By doing so, he hopes that he will finally encounter a case about that mysterious criminal organization, exposing its deeds, and get his hands on an antidote to gain his body back.

From an early age, Shinichi Kudo was very intelligent, observant, and intuitive. Thanks to his dad's influence, Shinichi has always been a persistent and incessant reader of mystery novels. Even more, his dad even took him to crime scenes when he was a mere child, inspiring him to become a detective.

Sometimes, Shinichi's bluntness makes him seem arrogant and rude. But in fact, the boy cares very deeply about the people around him, and cannot understand why there are reasons big enough for people to kill each other.

Wrapping up our list is Kaito Kuroba, the protagonist in Magic Kaito and a supporting character in Detective Conan. He's going to Ekoda School with his friend Aoko Nakamori, a transfer detective Hakuba Saguru, and a witch called Akako Koizumi.

Nine years after his dad's death, Kaito finds out that his father used to be Kaito Kid by stumbling upon a secret basement in his house and talking with his dad's friend and attendant, Jii Konosuke. Deciding to take after his father, Kaito continues to become Kaito Kid in his father's place, making Kid famous again to lure his father's murderers out of their hiding place.

Kaito Kuroba is an extremely talented and clever boy. He shows remarkable skills for planning out robbery schemes and revising them whenever things do not go as planned. He's also a talented researcher; whenever he is disguised as someone else, he always thoroughly researches everything he can about them.

Aside from that, Kaito also inherits good memories from his dad, remembering every little detail about things or people he sees. Though not realizing that Edogawa Conan is Kudo Shinichi, Kaito Kid soon knows that Conan is far from a normal child - which proves that he's a very observant and perceptive person.
