May support weight loss
According to certain research, chicory root fiber may control hunger and reduce calorie intake overall, perhaps resulting in weight reduction. Taking chicory-derived oligofructose, which is very similar to inulin, at a dose of 21 grams per day over a 12-week period in 48 overweight people resulted in a substantial, 2.2-pound (1-kg) average drop in body weight, whereas the placebo group gained weight.
In addition, this study discovered that oligofructose assisted in lowering ghrelin levels, which is a hormone that increases sensations of hunger. Similar findings were obtained from other studies, however, they mostly focused on oligofructose or inulin supplements rather than chicory root fiber.
