Melbourne Star
The Melbourne Star, formerly known as the Southern Star, is a 120-meter-tall observation wheel located in Melbourne, the state capital of Victoria, Australia's Docklands district. The Melbourne Star in Australia does, in fact, have a magnificently lit star center and luxurious observation gondolas that provide guests with city information throughout the 30-minute ride. Before boarding, grab a coffee from the cafe and enjoy the most breathtaking views while sipping and unwinding. The experience includes a tiny gift shop with a fairly cool LEGO model of the wheel.
Described by its operators as "the Southern Hemisphere's only giant observation wheel", it is 120 m (394 ft) tall and has seven spokes, reflecting the seven-pointed star of the Australian flag. During the day, visitors can enjoy beautiful Melbourne views stretching from the city center to Port Phillip Bay, past Mount Macedon, and the majestic Dandenong Ranges. At night, visitors will admire Melbourne brightly lit up with stars gently gliding across the vast galaxy. On 6 September, MB Star Properties announced that due to the COVID-19 pandemic, travel restrictions, and high-rise development in the surrounding area, the wheel was closed permanently. As of April 2022, it remains in situ.
