M/F Aerosund Ferry

The M/F Ærøsund ferry is a very new shipwreck and is one of The Best Dive Sites in Denmark. It sank in October 2014 after controlled scuttling and is currently the site of one of Denmark's most interesting artificial reefs. The ship was decontaminated and made safe for diving before it was scuttled, and even the ocean's flora and fauna have found themselves at home in this new feature of the seabed. The wreck is about 550 meters off the coast, near the settlement of Ballen on Funen, and is located roughly 19 meters below the surface of the water in the Ringsgrd Basin. The top of the wreck (the funnel) is only 6 meters below the surface, making it an appealing dive site for both freedivers and scuba divers.

In this sense, the following advice is useful: Because fine silt has accumulated inside the car deck, approaching with caution is advised due to the potential of a silt-out if this sediment is kicked up, which can result in losing sight of an exit and becoming disoriented. If you are not prepared, trained, or equipped for such an eventuality, do not enter. If you swim through, keep a safe distance from the deck and avoid disturbing the silt. It's not simply a safety issue; it also reduces visibility for the following diver.

Location: near the village of Ballen on Funen
