Mirror Lake Inn Resort & Spa

With stunning views of its namesake lake, the venerable family-run Mirror Lake Inn has been in operation for almost 90 years. The 131 carpeted, comfortable rooms, which are distributed around the resort's many areas and have the lodge-like decor in varying degrees of grandeur, reveal that this attractive facility is larger than it first appears to be. Suites may have jacuzzi tubs, gas fireplaces, and/or private balconies. For extra options, visitors can stroll to downtown Lake Placid. In the meantime, there are opportunities to burn off the renowned cookies in the lobby at the indoor and outdoor pools, tennis courts, fitness center, and seasonal skating rink – just keep an eye on the bill for those annoying extra costs. The absence of phone service in the common spaces adds to the ambiance of relaxation.

The greatest and tastiest cuisine in town has long been associated with the Mirror Lake Inn. The Wikoffs farmed their own pigs, made their own bacon, and had a vegetable garden where the Terrace Building currently sits. They exclusively made purchases from nearby farms, making specific arrangements to guarantee lengthy harvest windows and recently picked veggies. Even today, the Mirror Lake Inn continues this history of freshness by harvesting fresh herbs from its own herb garden and by maintaining connections with about ten nearby farmers. The idea of "farm to table" has been around for a while. The Inn's restaurants were once known for their seasonal meals, and they still are.
