Monster Hunt by Raman Hui (2015)

Raman Hui is the director of the Chinese action-comedy-fantasy movie Monster Hunt from 2015. The movie, which is produced by Bill Kong, Yee Chung-man, and Doris Tse, features Bai Baihe, Jing Boran, and Jiang Wu. The story takes place in a world where monsters and humans coexist, but there is a lot of hostility between them. The narrative centers on Song Tianyin, a young man (played by Jing Boran), who gets involved in a mission to defend the kingdom from a terrifying monster. He encounters a monster queen who is expecting and trying to escape the monster world along the route (Bai Baihe).

To depict the imaginative world of the monsters, the movie combines live action and computer-generated imagery (CGI). At the time of its release, the movie had amassed nearly $390 million at the Chinese box office, making it the highest-grossing Chinese movie ever.

Critics gave Monster Hunt high marks for its creative CGI use and its fusion of action, comedy, and fantasy elements. Raman Hui was named Best New Director at the Hong Kong Film accolades, while the movie also took home accolades for Best Visual Effects and Best New Director, respectively, at the 52nd Golden Horse Awards.
