Mount Vernon
George Washington's plantation home, Mount Vernon, is tucked away in northeastern Virginia. George Washington served as the country's first president. It draws millions of tourists each year because of its close proximity to Washington, DC, and significant historical significance.
The large estate, which is located in a picturesque area with a view of the Potomac River, served as Washington's home from 1754 until his death in 1799. There are tours of the structures and gardens, as well as demonstrations of how the plantation operated. The enormous mansion that the great man himself planned and furnished is the center of attention, though.
Visitors will gain insight into the life of this significant man in the more than 20 rooms that are filled with exquisite furnishings, family photos, and historical items. As well as paying your respects at the poignant George and Martha Washington memorial, you can learn more about him and his accomplishments at the site's museum and teaching center.
