Nest Learning Thermostat

The Nest Thermostat (or Nest Learning Thermostat) is a smart thermostat invented by Tony Fadell, Ben Filson, and Fred Bould for Nest Labs. It is a Wi-Fi-enabled electronic, programmable, and self-learning thermostat that optimizes heating and cooling in homes and workplaces to save energy.

While Nest's $249 (£185/AU$330 converted) third-generation Learning Thermostat isn't significantly different from prior models, it does have a larger screen and a smaller profile, as well as a few new functions. It contains a novel sensor that detects your presence from a distance and displays the time, inside temperature, or current weather prediction. Voice interactions with Google Assistant and Alexa are also supported.

It also works with Nest's temperature sensor, which was introduced in 2018, almost three years after this thermostat was originally available for purchase. The temperature sensor is offered individually for $39 or packaged with the thermostat for $19 ($268 total). Install one in your child's bedroom, the basement, or any other location where the temperature may be unusually hot or cold, so you may use it as the default temperature reading for your home (rather than your thermostat's built-in temperature sensor).
