Pantheon
Rome's history is so vast – literally – that no single museum can contain it all. The one that could come close is a 2000-year-old edifice where Rome's magnificent history is so tangible that you might want to put on a toga. The Pantheon is possibly the most well-preserved ancient edifice in the Western world — and hence one of the most influential. While its graying, pockmarked façade reflects its antiquity, the exciting feeling of walking through the massive bronze doors, as countless others have done over millennia, is eternal.
Once inside, take in the world's biggest unreinforced concrete dome and its stunning oculus before turning your attention to the artwork and relics dispersed around the interior. After that, stop for an expensive but Instagram-worthy coffee at one of the nearby cafés and take in the atmosphere of the bustling Piazza della Rotonda out front.
