Paradis Books & Bread
Paradis Books & Bread is blissfully stuck in the past. There is a genuine sense of regard for the past, from the natural wines that line its shelves to the organically leavened sourdough it produces every day to the books it stocks—real, physical paperbacks! But simplicity and healthfulness don't always imply ease: Owners Audrey Wright, Ben Yen, Bianca Sanon, Brian Wright, and Sef Chesson have been working toward this objective for years. Most of them met in New York City and have backgrounds in hospitality.
In addition to selling books and bottles, Paradis is also a bakery that serves healthful bread, a wine bar and café where customers may drink and eat from morning till night, and an urban garden next to a gorgeous terrace with seating. While Yen serves wine-friendly bites like different spreads and slices of sourdough pizza, Sanon, the project's lead wine sommelier, offers a carefully curated selection of low-intervention wines (hand-harvested organic grapes and small-production vineyards are among the steadfast guidelines she adheres to). A particularly mouthwatering illustration of Paradis' straightforward approach to food and drink is the cheese-less onion.
