Ponte 25 de Abril
The 25 de Abril Bridge, also known as Ponte 25 de Abril or the "25th of April Bridge," is a renowned suspension bridge that links the city of Lisbon, the capital of Portugal, to the municipality of Almada on the southern bank of the Tejo river. The inauguration of the establishment took place on August 6, 1966, with the subsequent addition of a train platform in 1999.
The suspension bridge, known for its striking resemblance in coloring, is frequently likened to the renowned Golden Gate Bridge located in San Francisco, USA. The remarkable similarity in design between the San Francisco-Oakland Bay Bridge and the Golden Gate Bridge can be attributed to the fact that both were constructed by the renowned American Bridge Company. It is worth noting that the company responsible for building the former bridge also played a pivotal role in the construction of the latter.
The suspension bridge boasts a remarkable length of 2,277 meters, securing its position as the 23rd largest suspension bridge globally. Until 1974, the iconic bridge was known as Salazar Bridge (Ponte Salazar). The commemorative name "25 de Abril" is derived from the historic event known as the Carnation Revolution.
