Prison Island
Prison Island is a small island surrounded by crystal clear blue water. Because of its proximity to Stone Town on Unguja, it is a popular day-trip destination. Throughout history, 'Changuu,' as it is sometimes called, has been used for several reasons, including as a slave port and quarantine station.
The island is currently densely forested, and one end is home to a massive turtle refuge. The remnants of the prison, which never housed any inmates, may be discovered all over the place.
Prison Island is highly worth seeing while in Stone Town because it offers a wonderful beach, excellent snorkeling straight offshore, and spectacular views. The boat voyage to and from the peaceful island is as pleasurable as the ride over the waters.
