Psychological First Aid by Johns Hopkins University (Coursera)
This course was created in partnership with the Johns Hopkins Open Education Lab. The goal of this course is to teach you how to support someone who is experiencing psychological difficulties. It teaches the RAPID approach, which includes reflective listening, assessment of needs, prioritization, intervention, and disposition, and can be used to effectively provide psychological first aid to those struggling with injuries and trauma that are not physically based.
The RAPID model is extremely beneficial in dealing with psychologically stressful events such as recovering from a terrible accident or death, robberies, violence, or suicidal thoughts, and so on. Furthermore, you can use these approaches for self-care and preventive actions to assist your loved ones in conquering challenging conditions. The techniques taught in the course can also be used in public health settings, the workplace, the military, faith-based organizations, and mass disaster sites, among other places. This course has been used by over 383,000 Coursera students.
The course is divided into five weekly modules that cover topics such as psychological first aid, reflective listening and rapport, how to prioritize psychological/ behavioral crisis reactions, mitigate acute distress, when to facilitate access to additional mental health support, and how to practice self-care.
