Ravensburger
This German company, which has been in operation for over a century, is one of Europe's leading toy manufacturers. Ravensburger's first game, "A Trip Around the World," was released in 1884, and the company has since created thousands of picture books, activity games, and model-building and art instruction books. Today, the corporation owns BRIO, a Swedish toy maker, and Thinkfun, a US toy manufacturer, as well as a strategic investment in Wonder Forge, a US game start-up. Carlit, F.X. Schmid, and Alga are among Ravensburger's brands.
Ravensburger had over 800 products before the First World War. The publishing house was damaged during WWII, but it continued to make games during the restoration years. From 1962, the company concentrated on children's games and books, as well as specialty books for art, architecture, and hobbies. In 1964, the company began producing jigsaw puzzle games and opened subsidiaries in Austria, France, Italy, the Netherlands, Switzerland, and the United Kingdom in the same year. In 1977, the corporation was divided into two parts: a book publishing division and a game publishing division.
