Reduce Cancer Risk
For some time, researchers have known that consuming enough cruciferous vegetables like turnips, cabbages, and cauliflower reduced a person's chance of acquiring cancer. A more recent study has shown that a chemical in these veggies known as sulforaphane, which is responsible for its bitter flavor, may also help prevent cancer.
Several studies have been conducted to investigate the effects of sulforaphane on several types of cancer, including prostate, pancreatic, esophageal, and melanoma. Food containing this chemical, according to a study, has the potential to cure cancer as part of future therapy. Turnips also have a phytonutrient called indoles. Brassin, a kind of indole discovered in 2012, was proven to help eliminate colon cancer cells.
