Rich History
When you visit Armenia, you are visiting a country with a rich history as well as a sad past. It was once a great civilisation, but it is today a tiny landlocked country sandwiched between Iran and Georgia, and stuck between its foes, Turkey and Azerbaijan. Its inhabitants were massacred by the Ottomans in a genocide that is not yet to recognize by many countries in the world, and its majestic structures were destroyed by a terrible earthquake in 1988.
Despite its stormy history, the Armenian people are fiercely proud of their country's heritage, and for good reason. The Armenian civilisation formerly stretched from Persia to Eastern Europe and was home to several historical firsts, such as being the first country to manufacture wine and the first to accept Christianity.
Nowadays, you may explore the remains of Armenia's rich history without being bothered by selfie sticks and tour guides equipped with umbrellas. Take your time exploring among its monasteries and temples, and absorb their calm magnificence while Armenia is still off the tourist trail.
