Rohto Pharmaceutical
Rohto Pharmaceutical Co., Ltd. is an international fast-moving consumer product and pharmaceutical firm headquartered in Osaka's Ikuno-ku with operations in North America, Europe, and Asia. Rohto acquired the Mentholatum Company in 1974. It obtained the trademark rights to Mentholatum in August 1975 and began selling Mentholatum Ointment and Mentholatum Medicated Lip Stick, which proved to be a financial success as the company's revenue climbed to 2.64 billion by April 1981.
The Rohto Group has operations in 15 major markets and distribution agreements in over 150 countries worldwide. They have two manufacturing factories in Japan and six manufacturing plants in the United States, the United Kingdom, China, Vietnam, Hong Kong, and Indonesia. Rohto joined the Indian market in mid-2010, launching operations in the lipcare and skin care segments with their internationally recognized brands, Lipice and Oxy. They also joined the Bangladesh market at the same time. With a strong presence in foreign markets, the company employs over 5,000 people.
