Takeda Pharmaceutical has two main bases in Japan: one in Osaka and one in Tokyo. Its subsidiary in the United States is headquartered in Cambridge, Massachusetts, and all global operations outside of Japan and the United Kingdom are headquartered in Opfikon (Zurich), Switzerland. Takeda Pharmaceutical specializes in pharmaceutical drug discovery, development, manufacture, marketing, commercialization, import, and export. Fortune Magazine named Takeda Oncology Company one of the 100 greatest companies to work for in the United States in January 2012.

The company sells treatments for rare diseases, gastrointestinal disorders, oncology, neuroscience, vaccinations, and plasma-derived therapeutics. Takeda has facilities in, among other places, Japan, Argentina, Brazil, Mexico, the United States, Denmark, Norway, Europe, Poland, Russia, Spain, Switzerland, China, India, and Canada. It sells its products both directly and through a global network of wholesale distributors, retail chains, and other purchasing organizations. Takeda has collaborations with academic institutions, small biotech businesses, and large pharmaceutical corporations. It operates in the Americas, Europe, and Asia, among other places.
