Shadowhunters (2016)
Shadowhunters, also known as Shadowhunters: The Mortal Instruments, is an American supernatural drama television series created by Ed Decter and based on Cassandra Clare's book series of the same name. It debuted on Freeform in North America on January 12, 2016. The novel follows Clary Fray (Katherine McNamara), who discovers on her sixteenth birthday that she is not who she believes she is, but rather is descended from a long line of Shadowhunters, human-angel hybrids who hunt down demons and must face the fight of forbidden love.
After the 2013 film The Mortal Instruments: City of Bones, which, like the series, was produced by Constantin Film, this is the second adaptation of the novel series. The television show is a remake of the 2013 film. Shadowhunters' first season garnered mixed reviews from reviewers. The pilot episode drew the most viewers in more than two years for Freeform. The program was nominated for several awards and won one GLAAD Award, six Teen Choice Awards, and five People's Choice Awards.
