Shantiniketan
It is understandable that the Holi festival is honored and worshiped in a different manner, and the way that Shantiniketan chooses is not an exception. It is labeled as Basanta Utsav or Spring Festival - to welcome and prepare for the new year of prosperity and happiness. Basanta Utsav party is started as an annual event by the famous Bengali poet and Nobel Laureate Rabindranath Tagore at Shantiniketan University.
On this day, his students will celebrate the Holi festival in a distinctive way. They dress up in yellow color and present some of the wonderful folk dances and programs. A wide range of Tagore's songs are played with a catchy and beautiful melody, followed by the local cuisine under the dynamic atmosphere of people, all creating a huge attraction.
For this reason, many tourists arrive every year at Shantiniketan to witness and join in the flow of people. This spreads the huge cultural program for tourists and becomes a cherished part of Bengali heritage.
