She studied design and architecture

Melania Trump attended the city's Secondary School of Design and Photography and spent one year at the University of Ljubljana studying architecture and design before quitting. Melania Trump, the first lady of the United States, gave up her architectural studies to pursue a modeling career before she wed Donald Trump, but she still has a passion for design. Here are four instances where she made news, including her most recent renovation of the Rose Garden at the White House.

  • White House Tennis Pavilion: The first lady designed a tennis pavilion for the White House, which she announced on Twitter. This is another project she worked on at home. The White House Tennis Pavilion, which was developed in partnership with the National Park Service, is meant to be inspired by the neoclassical design of the main presidential home. Details include copper roofing, limestone siding, big arched windows, and columns.
  • White House Rose Garden: Melania Trump redesigned the White House Rose Garden with the help of landscape architectural companies Perry Guillot and Oehme, van Sweden & Associates. The new design blends a lot of green shrubbery with white and pastel flowers. The garden was created in 1913 by Ellen Louise Axson Wilson, the wife of former US president Woodrow Wilson. It had a renovation in 1961 while John F. Kennedy was in office. Critics on social media pointed out that Jaqueline Kennedy included colorful tulips and cherry trees, which Melania Trump's design omitted.
  • Be Best children's initiative logo: Melania Trump is also responsible for the Be Best initiative's logo, a platform for a policy that aims to combat opioid misuse and promote well-being by encouraging optimism on social media. Be Best appears to be written in red and blue using a flat-tipped marker pen in the design.
  • Melania Trump's architecture degree controversy: On her website, Melania Trump formerly claimed—in error—to have earned a bachelor's degree in architecture from the University of Ljubljana. She abandoned the college after the first year to pursue a modeling career in Milan, but as her profile grew during her husband's 2016 presidential campaign, this became public knowledge.
