Shinhotaka Ropeway
One of the most distinctive ropeways in Japan is the Shinhotaka Ropeway. It ascends more than 1000 meters up the side of the Hotaka Mountain Range, which contains Oku-Hotakedake, Japan's third-highest peak, for one of the biggest height gains in the nation. However, its most distinctive feature is its first-of-their-kind double-decker gondola carriages in Japan, which provide superb views of the Okuhida Region.
There are two ropeways that make up the ropeway. From the bus stop to Nabedaira Kogen, the first is a quick 200-meter ascent on a single-story ropeway. The Shinhotaka Visitors Center, a public bath, dining options, a gift store, a small art gallery, hiking paths, and the start of the double-decker ropeway are all located here. There are no buses available, although Nabedaira Kogen is also reachable by automobile.
The double-decker ropeway ascends more than 800 meters from Nabedaira Kogen to the top station at a height of about 2150 meters. A café, gift store, and observation deck with breathtaking views of the surrounding mountains and valleys are located in the upper station. On October 19, 2022, a modest network of walking paths leading to a few additional viewing decks opened up around the higher station. In October 2023, these trails will be significantly expanded.
