SKF (Swedish Ball Bearing Factory) is a Swedish bearing and seal manufacturer that was founded in 1907 in Gothenburg, Sweden. Bearings, seals, lubrication and lubrication systems, maintenance goods, mechatronics products, power transmission products, condition monitoring systems, and related services are all manufactured and supplied globally by the company.
SKF's development is an important aspect of the Swedish and global machine industry's development. Following the invention of the spherical ball bearing by engineer Sven Wingquist, SKF is founded in Gothenburg in 1907 with the initial capital and startup project for ball bearing manufacturing of Gamlestadens Fabriker AB, under the guidance of co-owners and board members Axel Carlander and Knut Johansson Mark.
SKF is the world's largest bearing manufacturer, with 44,000 employees spread across 108 manufacturing facilities. It is the industry's largest industrial distributor network, with 17,000 distributor locations spanning 130 countries. SKF is one of Sweden's largest enterprises and one of the world's largest public companies.
