Soar into the Sun (2012)

R2B: Return to Base is a 2012 South Korean aviation action drama film largely based on the 1986 blockbuster Top Gun. After a brash and reckless air show display, South Korean elite Air Force pilot Tae Hoon is booted out of his top-tier squad and relegated to a combat unit. He meets Cheol Hui, the unit's top gun, on the first day of his transfer to F15K. Tae Hoon's free-spirited nature and Cheol Hui's rule-abiding tendencies clash almost immediately. Meanwhile, Tae Hoon befriends the rest of his new squad, including Se Yeong, with whom he falls in love.

Tae Hoon's shenanigans continue until one day, a squad reconnaissance trip turns into an unforeseen occurrence, resulting in an untimely death and the disappearance of a fellow comrade. When the unit receives an emergency notification that an unidentified combat jet has entered their zone, Tae Hoon and Cheol Hui are forced to put aside their differences and lead their troops to halt a conflict and recover their lost friend.
