South Island School
South Island School is set to differentiate education in Hong Kong, providing a dynamic and inspiring curriculum designed to spark student curiosity. During the key years from Years 7 to 9, South Island School introduces students to the Middle Years Program (MYP) of the International Baccalaureate (IB). Creatively compressed over a three-year period to accommodate the concurrent International General Certificate of Secondary Education (IGCSE) programme, this period exposes students to a comprehensive curriculum.
English, math, science, Chinese, modern foreign languages (French or Spanish), individuals and society, global thinking, design and art are the foundation subjects. The journey culminates with an impactful community project in Year 9, where students collaborate on projects that benefit their school or the wider Hong Kong community.
Entering Years 10 and 11, the IGCSE curriculum takes center stage, covering essential subjects such as English, math, Sscience(biology, chemistry, and physics), PE, languages, humanities, the arts and global citizenship. This stage both ensures academic proficiency and allows students to adjust their studies by choosing an additional language or humanities subject.
In key Years 12 and 13, students face the important choice between the IB Diploma and the IB Career-Related Program. The former involves choosing subjects at Higher Level and Standard Level, spanning languages, humanities, science and mathematics, alongside completing challenging sections such as the Open Essay broad, CAS and Theory of Knowledge courses. The latter offers flexibility by allowing students to replace some subjects with practical BTEC courses while completing core elements of the career-related program.
South Island School's commitment to academic excellence is clearly demonstrated in its exam results. The 2022 IGCSE/GCSE results show notable achievements, with 61% achieving A*-A grades and an impressive 94% achieving A*-C grades. International Baccalaureate results are equally impressive, with a 98% pass rate and surpassing the world average with an average Diploma score of 37.1 points. The South Island School continues to stand strong, producing academically proficient individuals.
