The French International School (FIS)
The French International School (FIS) in Hong Kong has become a cornerstone of international education, providing a unique bilingual experience to more than 2,500 students at four campuses. Accredited exclusively by the Agency for the Teaching of French Abroad (AEFE), FIS is renowned as the only accredited French school in the city.
In 2014, FIS marked a significant expansion by opening a new facility in Hung Hom. However, in 2018, the school shifted its focus to Tseung Kwan O, closing the Hung Hom Campus to ensure a better learning experience.
FIS offers two streams: - French stream and an international stream. The French stream follows the French National Education curriculum, exposing students to the French "qualification national du brevet" and "baccalaureate.". On the other hand, the International Programme, based on the British curriculum, guides students to study the IGCSE in Form 5 and the highly regarded International Baccalaureate (IB) in Form 6. FIS stands out as the top international school in Hong Kong, having first offered the IB program in 1988.
The school's origins are tied to the development of the Shek Pik Dam when French engineers and technicians arrived in Hong Kong in 1963. Starting out as the first international school in the city, FIS started with 30 students living in part of an apartment in Pok Phu Lam. Throughout its journey, FIS has expanded its reach, establishing facilities at Jardine's Lookout, Blue Pool Road Secondary School, Chai Wan and an eco-friendly facility in Tseung Kwan O in 2018.
FIS's commitment to linguistic diversity has been demonstrated by the provision of Mandarin classes since 1973. The school has continuously developed its curriculum since the introduction of the IB program in 1973. 1988 revolutionized the educational landscape in Hong Kong.
With a casual dress code that promotes common sense, FIS reflects its commitment to providing a comfortable yet focused learning environment. As FIS continues to shape the educational landscape in Hong Kong, its legacy as a pioneer in bilingual education remains steadfast, creating global citizens with unique perspectives.
