Southern States Coop
Southern States Cooperative is a retail agricultural cooperative serving the agronomic, energy, and supply needs of its members and customers across eight states in the Southeastern United States. The VA-based Richmond Cooperative serves a wide range of farm inputs including: fertilizers, seeds, animal feed, pet food, animal health supplies and products petroleum, as well as other commodities for the farm and home.
The cooperative was founded in 1923 as the Virginia Seed Service (VSS) when Virginia farmers were unable to purchase guaranteed seed for planting in the commonwealth and soon expanded to include animal feed, inputs, and crops. into agronomy, energy and farm supplies. In the early 1930s, the cooperative was called Cochinchina. In 2020, Southern States joins GROWMARK to take advantage of the benefits that a broader partnership system will bring to members, Southern States continues to operate 87 corporate-owned retail locations and maintains partnerships with 44 locally owned Southern States cooperatives.
Today, Southern States is an agricultural cooperative focused on providing profitable farming solutions and trusted energy expertise to its members and customers based on the specific needs of the local community.
