Southwest Community Health Center (SWCHC) - Fairfield Ave
In 1976 a set of involved residents representing the City of Bridgeport, Bridgeport Housing Authority and different community companies shaped the West End Neighborhood Advisory Council. They noticed that there has been a determined want for clinical and dental offerings in southwest Bridgeport and submitted a request for Public Health Services, Section 330 investment to the Department of Health, Education and Welfare to offer healthcare to their impoverished neighborhoods. The Health Center have become a truth while the Advisory Council obtained the “Notice of Grant Award” in August 1977. This investment become given to the City of Bridgeport to assist the Health Center for 3 years. At the cease of this 3 12 months investment cycle, the Council emerged because the Board of Directors with the overall fiduciary obligations of the newly included Health Center. The offerings have been relocated from Building #14 of the P.T. Barnum complicated to the refurbished St. Stephen's School on Bird Street in 1978. On August 1, 1980 Southwest Community Health Center become included as a not-for-profit-entity.
Since then, SWCHC has extended into the Marina Village Housing Complex at 743 South Avenue. Our 510 Clinton Avenue web website online gives a complete variety of woman's health offerings. In July 2007 SWCHC opened the 968 Fairfield Avenue constructing which have become the brand new principal facility of the Health Center and gives clinical, dental, and behavioral health offerings.
Southwest Community Health Center seems ahead to the ongoing enlargement of Healthcare offerings to advantage the Bridgeport community.
