Sunnybrook School
Sunnybrook School, established in 1952, has been a leading educational institution in North Toronto. They take pride in being the first English-speaking school in Canada to adopt the International Baccalaureate (IB) Primary Years Programme, actively contributing to the IB community.
Since 1997, Sunnybrook School has offered the IB curriculum, with the addition of four IB workshop leaders on their staff. Starting in 2022, they will integrate the IB PYP enhancements into their program, focusing on student agency and assessing the learning process. Through agency, students have a voice, take ownership of their learning, and can take action based on their knowledge.
Sunnybrook School's role is to create meaningful learning opportunities that encourage active participation. The PYP assessment system recognizes and rewards different learning styles, allowing teachers to personalize their approach and cater to each student's unique needs.
At Sunnybrook School, they provide a balanced curriculum that equips students with the skills to understand multiple perspectives, take responsibility for their learning, and prepare for the future. The goal is to empower students to explore concepts, build knowledge, and develop skills, constructing their own understanding.
Beyond academics, Sunnybrook School fosters a caring community where students feel comfortable and form healthy relationships with their peers and teachers. Together, the administration and teachers work collaboratively to establish a supportive learning culture and a caring environment.
