Superman's Flight
The final spot in the best places for Scuba Diving in Saint Lucia is Superman’s Flight. With a name like this, you can expect this dive to be a little more thrilling than others. Superman's Flight is a famous scuba diving spot beneath the sheer west face of Petit Piton, featuring currents that give divers the illusion of soaring through the water.
The diving location itself provides much more than just the thrill of flight. A wide range of reef formations, including plate coral, brain coral, soft coral, and sea fans, are among the 20 species that provide a splash of color to the scene. Superman's Flight is also home to over 150 different types of fish. Most are brightly colored and seen in vast numbers, some in schools of approximately 1,000 students. The Creole Wrasse, which is purple-blue with yellow markings, is well-known for its abundance in the area. The geography also favors Pufferfish and Lobster, which are frequently seen in huge quantities.
Dive operators employ a drift dive pattern when diving Superman's Flight for the enjoyment and convenience of their clients. Once the divers are in the water, the boat follows them as they drift south with the current, providing a somewhat calm experience. There are two ways to plunge into Superman's Flight. Divers can plunge to a depth of 40 to 60 feet and stay there for the duration of the dive. For those who want a deeper dive, operators will first take divers down to 100 feet and then rise in stages to 70, 50, and 30 feet in line with the diving table criteria. The flying sensation is provided by the prevailing currents in either case. Because of the local geography, the currents at Superman's Flight are stronger than those at most other dive locations. At the westernmost tip of Petit Piton, there is a convergence of long-shore currents and deep ocean patterns.
