Tainan
This old city, Tainan, which was once the imperial capital of Taiwan, is definitely worth a visit, with many intriguing sites and cultural icons for travelers to appreciate. The Anping District, which is Tainan's historic core, is one of the city's most popular tourist destinations.
There are many lovely historic temples in this area, as well as Fort Zeelandia, which was erected in the 17th century by the Dutch East India Company. There are several excellent museums, including the Chimei and Koxinga Museums, as well as plenty of excellent shopping opportunities. Stop by the night markets to sample some of the local fares. With so much beautiful scenery surrounding Tainan, a day trip to the Nanhua or Hutoupi Reservoirs, or even Taijian National Park, is a must.
