TCL Chinese Theater
The TCL Chinese Theatre, formerly known as Grauman's Chinese Theatre, opened on May 18, 1927, with the premiere of Cecil B. DeMille's The King of Kings. The spectacular opening of the theatre drew tens of thousands of spectators to Hollywood Boulevard. The following day, on May 19, the theatre was open to the public.
The TCL Chinese Theatre has the world's biggest IMAX auditorium and North America's third-largest commercial cinema screen. Every year, more than four million people from all around the world visit the theatre. This historic theater, which combines Chinese design and ornamentation, has held three Academy Awards ceremonies as well as notable film premieres, including the 1977 debut of the Star Wars series. The "autograph collection" of renowned footprints and handprints in the forecourt, an honor conferred on various celebrities, is possibly its most well-known feature. In addition to hands and feet, there are traces left by Herbie the VW bug's tires, as well as imprints from Harry Potter's, Hermione Granger's, and Ron Weasley's wands.
