The Chicago Board of Trade (CBOT)
The Chicago Board of Trade (CBOT) is one of the world's oldest futures and options exchanges. On July 12, 2007, CBOT merged with the Chicago Mercantile Exchange (CME) to become the CME Group. CBOT and three other exchanges (CME, NYMEX and COMEX) now operate as CME Group's Designated Contract Markets (DCMs).
In the past, the Chicago Board of Trade originally traded only agricultural products such as wheat, corn, and soybeans, but now offers options and futures contracts on a variety of commodities, including gold, silver, US Treasuries, and energy. Originally, it was a pure open call trading platform where human traders met to negotiate and agree on a market price for a product.
