The Drug King (2018)

Woo Min-ho is the author and director of the 2018 South Korean criminal drama film The Drug King. Song Kang-ho plays Lee Doo-sam, a common small-time drug dealer who rises to prominence as a notorious drug king in 1970s Korea. The movie also stars Bae Doona as a lobbyist who helps Lee into the highest echelons of the drug trade and Jo Jung-suk as a prosecutor from Seoul who is determined to bring Lee down. Kim Dae-myung, Kim So-jin, Lee Hee-joon, Jo Woo-jin, and Yoon Je-moon are additional cast members. The release day for the movie was December 19, 2018.


The real-life account of cocaine smuggler Lee Doo-sam (Lee Hwang-soon), who built his empire in the 1970s in Busan's criminal underworld. Lee initially hails from Hwanghae Province and was a member of the Chilsung faction in Busan. He began smuggling diamonds and other things in the early 1970s, later expanding it to include pharmaceuticals for internal distribution and exporting it to Japan as well, building up enormous sums of riches in the process.
