The Nokdu Flower (2019)
Nokdu Flower or also known as a drama that has the title Mung Bean Flour is a drama that aired on SBS in 2019. This drama is about a dispute between two half-brothers during the Donghak Peasants’ Revolution which lasted from 1894 to 1895 in 1895 in the Joseon era. Baek Yi-kang (played by Jo Jung-suk) is the first son of an elite family. His father was rich and he was famous as a local government official. But, Yi-kang’s mother is from the lowest class. Because his mother’s social class is low, people also look down on Baek Yi-kang.
The chairman of a sizable merchant group's only daughter is Song Ja-in (played by Han Ye-ri). Ja-in is the proprietor of "Jeonjoo Yeokak", a business that both sells goods and operates an inn. She is courageous, maintains composure under stress, and exudes charisma. Song Ja-in aspires to excel as a trader in Joseon. Although he is Yi-kang's younger half-brother, Baek Yi-hyun (played by Yoon Si Yoon) is intelligent, appealing, and courteous.
Baek Yi-hyun was not born outside of marriage, in contrast to Yi-kang. Yi-hyun is well-off and shows his stepbrother respect. Yi-kang and Yi-hyun have split apart in 1894, during the Donghak Peasants' Revolution. At that time, the government that was promoting the expansion of the Catholic Church was opposed by the peasants and religious leaders of the Donghak (Eastern Religion) in Jeolla Province.
