The Emperor: Owner of the Mask tells the story of the crown prince Lee Seon (Yoo Seung Hoo), since he was born he had to wear a mask. Anyone who saw his face had to die, so it was rumored that after the illness his face had become ugly and anyone who looked at it would be cursed. His father - King Lee Yoon explained that wearing a mask was to cure him, but in fact, he was protecting the crown prince from the pursuit of a secret organization.

The Pyun Soo Association is a powerful organization, a tool to build the Joseon dynasty, specializing in standing behind puppet kings to expand and earn profits for themselves. Lee Yoon did not want his son to become a member of the Pyun Soo guild, so he tried everything to protect him. When growing up to face their crimes, Crown Prince Lee Seon decided to stand up and overthrow to find justice for the people. During a disguise, Lee Seon accidentally met Han Ga Eun (played by Kim So-hyun) and was saved by her.
