The Feast Of Saint John
Lithuanian holidays and festivals are usually celebrated on Midsummer days. The Feast of Saint John is one of the most important Lithuanian holidays. John's Day is nothing more than a celebration of the approaching summer solstice in a country where nature is worshiped as God. On this day, people gather to celebrate the ancient Pagan tradition of wishing others good luck by releasing floating wreaths into the mighty Neris River. Family and friends gather in a clearing in the woods for a celebratory meal. As soon as sunset falls, bonfires are lit, and Lithuanians bid farewell to the cold and dark days with lots of singing and dancing.
John's feast is very special and sacred, the festival is considered a blessing ceremony for others. The Feast of St. John can be seen as a point of connection between people, which is why the Feast of St. John is one of the most famous festivals in Lithuania.
