The Glasgow School of Art

The Glasgow Institution of Art is a higher education art school in Glasgow, Scotland, that offers undergraduate degrees, postgraduate certificates, and PhDs in architecture, fine art, and design.

The Glasgow School of Art, founded in 1845, is one of the UK's few remaining independent art institutions. With a proven track record of creating some of the world's most important and successful artists, designers, and architects, the GSA's studio-based specialised, practice-led education attracts bright individuals from all over the world with shared love and concern for visual culture. Many graduates have decided to stay in Glasgow, and the city now has one of the largest and most active creative communities in the UK.

Ever since, the School's site has developed, and an international architectural competition was organized in 2009 to identify an architect-led design team to establish the Campus Masterplan and design the Phase 1 building. The Mackintosh Building was the core of the campus and remained operational until the first major fire on May 23, 2014. The Fine Art Painting department, first-year studios, and administrative personnel were all situated in the building. It is home to the Mackintosh Gallery, which hosts a variety of exhibitions throughout the year. The Mackintosh Gallery (also known as the Mackintosh Museum) was the only component of the Mackintosh building that was available to the public; all other areas of the school could only be seen on a guided tour.
