The Halal Guys offers authentic American Halal street food with options like beef gyro, falafel, chicken or beef combo platters and it even has desserts like baklava and chocolate chip cookies.
Since Halal Guys is so well-known, they have had to take legal action against imitator companies that tried to profit from their good name. Interestingly, this only enhances their street cred. All meat-eating New Yorkers are somewhat obligated to order the cart's halal chicken or lamb over rice platters from time to time because the original carts in Midtown have been operating since 1990.
Not only is it well-known, but it is also delicious, filling, and only $6. Whichever protein you decide to order, you must oblige the cart staff when they inquire about the addition of white sauce, a slightly sour yogurt dressing that is just as important as the meat itself. Don’t get too cocky with their bright red hot sauce, its spicy punch will easily overpower the other flavors of your lunch.
