The International School Yangon
The International School Yangon (ISY) is a non-profit PreK through 12th Grade school founded in 1955 in Yangon. It provides an American Curriculum up to Grade 10, as well as an International Baccalaureate program for Grades 11 and 12. ISY is working hard to become a carbon-neutral school with a meat-free campus, recycled food waste, and a significant focus on solar energy.
At the same time, it developed a goal and vision; it chose eight strategic themes that would serve as the school's foundation in the following years. Commitments to service learning, inclusivity in the classroom, environmental awareness, technology integration, and the celebration of culture and diversity are among them.
Academic standards, also known as learning outcomes, serve as the core of the ISY curriculum, and via them, teachers establish the skills, information, procedures, and understandings that will be taught and assessed. Rich, scaffolded learning experiences support student achievement of standards, and instructional materials are linked with learning experiences.
The International School Yangon-approved standards provide consistent learning progressions from Pre-Kindergarten to Grade 12, and they convey to students, parents, teachers, and administrators what students are expected to learn in each subject area and grade level.
The standards for each subject are arranged into strands that describe the major components of the subject. Each strand contains a set of standards that specify the abilities, knowledge, and understandings that students must have at the end of high school.
Typically, standards are few in number and vast in scope. In addition, there are grade-level indicators for each standard, which are grade-level points of reference that are particular descriptions of knowledge, skill, or comprehension.
