The Old Fashioned
The Wisconsin Brandy Old Fashioned is a drink that is very close to our hearts here in Wisconsin! This variant of the classic Old Fashioned, prepared with whiskey, incorporates brandy, muddled fruit, and a dash of lemon-lime soda, as well as the Badger state seal of approval. According to legend, Korbel introduced their brandy during a fair in Chicago in 1893, which drew a large number of Wisconsinites. Many of them had German ancestors and preferred brandy over whiskey. The tweak on the traditional drink, along with a few other unusual peculiarities, was formed, and the rest is history. To feel like a genuine Wisconsinite, make one at home or order one at a pub!
The Dairy State's three main food groups are beer, brats, and cheese, and there's no better spot to grab all three than the Old Fashioned. The rustic, woodsy tavern is furnished with some of the Madison area's most distinctive sports and cultural relics and has two bars on either side, where you can warm up with craft beer and a spicy fried egg (the Wisconsin way) or a cocktail like the hand-muddled, brandy Old Fashioned (the Wisconsin way). Dishes using ingredients from around the state, such as Bleu Mont Dairy cheese, Sheboygan brats, and Greenbush donuts, are on the menu. A beer-battered walleye sandwich and two Sheboygan bratwursts with toppings on a firm bread are local favorites. Whatever you choose, don't forget to get a couple of orders of beer-battered cheese curds.
