Team culture is what determines whether a team succeeds or fails. But, exactly, what is culture? What role does it play in success and failure? This course will teach you how to spot characteristics of team culture that most people aren't aware of. These seemingly little details frequently have the biggest impact on group work outcomes. You'll be able to build, join, and lead teams more efficiently if you recognize them. You also learn to value the importance of ritual and symbolism in teamwork daily, as well as in times of transition and crisis. You will be a better team member and team leader if you understand the concepts and material presented in this session.
In the first unit, you'll start by defining "team" and then look at what makes teams work, the role culture plays in every team, and how "habit" and "cultural fit" might affect our success in certain teams. You sometimes need to take a step back and look at cultural differences from other angles than you're used to. There are cultural divides everywhere. Differences can even be seen within a single culture. Have you ever thought about how a grin isn't merely a natural reaction? You will explore further into culture and the contrasts between various cultures, particularly corporate culture, in this course.
