The Vardavar Festival
The Vardavar Festival is one of the enjoyable activities available throughout Armenia on July 8. Vardavar has two meanings in Armenian: to sprinkle with water and to flaming the rose. According to legend, the goddess Astghik spread love throughout Armenia by sprinkling rose water. Vahagn, the god, defended that love by fighting against Evil all the time. After Christianity was adopted, this tradition was transformed into Vardavar, a festival in which everyone splashes water on each other.
The festival honors Astghik, the goddess of water, beauty, love, and fertility, and is based on an ancient Armenian legend. A fantastic adventure awaits you as you walk through the tornado-ravaged streets of Yerevan with a bucket in hand, shooting water at your companions or unidentified victims.
Not only is it a sacred festival, but it is also the most famous festival in Armenia. The festival attracts thousands of visitors because there is a very special activity that is splashing water, which makes participants more happy and the festival becomes more interesting. Come to Armenia for this exciting festival.
