Toyo Seikan
Toyo Seikan Kaisha, the world's second-largest glass packaging producer, was formed in 1917 in the city of Osaka as Toyo Seikan Kaisha, with a plant opening in the same year.
Toyo Seikan was first listed on the Tokyo Stock Exchange in 1949, and it began producing beer cans nine years later.
In 1982, the company began producing PET beverage bottles, and eight years later, it began producing stay-on-tab ends.
By 2013, the company had been renamed Toyo Seikan Group Holdings and had been converted to a holding company form.
Glass is the company's primary product, and it's used to make the soft drink and alcoholic beverage containers, as well as other types of glass dinnerware for restaurants and homes.
Toyo Seikan also manufactures metal beverage cans and caps, as well as plastic film, pouches and trays, paper containers, and aerosols.
According to GlobalData, the company employs 19,307 people in Asia, Europe, North America, and South America, and had net sales of $7.6 billion in 2019. It is now led by president Ichio Otsuka.
