Uni
Uni, one of the Best Japanese Restaurants in Boston, gained notoriety for its outstanding izakaya and sashimi selections, and the cuisine continues to wow, showcasing the freshest ingredients from local unagi to Maine uni. Despite having mastered the basics, Uni isn't hesitant to experiment and add new tastes to recipes that change with the season (past highlights have included coconut, passion fruit and watermelon). The selection of unfiltered and unpasteurized sakes is very outstanding.
As the saying goes, "with great loss comes great opportunity," thus it was when Ken Oringer's storied Clio closed its dining room doors that Uni was able to grow. Originally a small sashimi bar, it has grown into a 100-seat izayaka where you can now order nigiri with dishes like Japanese milk bread, ember-roasted duck breast, King crab yakitori, and wagyu beef dumplings. However, the sushi remains a must-have, including the lobster BLT roll, the A5 wagyu sirloin nigiri, and the still-amazing sashimi selections that Uni is known for. The late-night weekend ramen menu is still happily available and is styled up by the sporadic entrance of celebrity chefs. The sake program comprises unfiltered and nama (unpasteurized) varietals.
