University of Monastir

The University of Monastir (UM) is a Tunisian interdisciplinary university in Monastir, Tunisia, having its own financial and administrative autonomy. It was established in 2004 as a result of the reform of the university higher education system, and it is divided into five faculties, two graduate schools, and nine institutes.

Its principal tasks are broadly related to higher education, learning, and research, with the goal of decentralizing services, overseeing, and increasing the higher education system's profitability.

, which has around 27,500 students, 2,044 lecturers, and 758 administrative and support employees, offers a wide range of undergraduate and postgraduate degrees, with an average graduate count of around 4,700 every year.


In the 2016 Arab Universities Regional Ranking, it is placed 18th by US News & World Report. The university is ranked third in Tunisia by UniRank. According to the ShanghaiRanking's Global Ranking of Academic Subjects 2020, the university was placed 301-400 globally and first nationally in the discipline of "Energy Science & Engineering" in 2020.
