University of Zambia

The University of Zambia (UNZA), first in the list of best universities in Zambia, is a public research university in Lusaka, Zambia. It is the country's largest and oldest educational institution. The University of Zambia, founded in 1965, is a non-profit public higher education institution located in the urban setting of Lusaka (population range of 1,000,000-5,000,000 inhabitants). The University of Zambia (UNZA) provides courses and programs that lead to officially recognized higher education degrees such as bachelor's degrees in a variety of fields of study.


This 55-year-old Zambian higher-education institution has a selective admission policy that is based on students' previous academic records and grades. International students are encouraged to apply for admission. UNZA also offers a library, housing, sports facilities, financial aid and/or scholarships, study abroad and exchange programs, online courses and distance learning opportunities, and administrative services to students. It has a nanotechnology research center that was founded in 2001. The center was founded by Elijah Mwansa, who after graduating from the University of Zambia received his Ph.D. from the University of Cambridge and was a professor at University of Heidelberg and Carnegie Mellon University.
