User Experience & Interaction Design for AR/VR/MR/XR

The second class in the XR for Everyone specialty examines how to create innovative user interfaces for XR devices. The course gives students a design thinking attitude and a basic toolkit for leveraging rapid prototyping to build XR applications. Beginning with a broad overview of the entire XR design process, it goes over several career pathways for XR creators, what is often involved in creating XR experiences, and the best way to get started. The course then introduces rules and user-centered practices including design jams while emphasizing design thinking, criticisms, and ethics. The course's second half introduces a number of techniques and tools for prototyping both physically and digitally, including immersive authoring on the XR devices themselves.

The course's honors track leads students through the creation of their own XR experience's storyboard, a physical prototype, and digital prototype. By using particular templates and new digital tools that let you preview real prototypes on AR/VR devices, you will work on exercises that let you hone your design skills while also integrating XR technologies into your workflow.
